Transmission Planning Technical Assistance to Rwanda Energy Group (REG)
client: USEA
type: System study and Education (Transmission, Renewable)
finishing date: December 2018 (May 2019)
team: Nebojsa Jovic - Project Leader, M. Ivanovic, M. Stojanovic, B. Sijakovic
Phase 1
The main objective of this phase is to develop and validate simulation models, necessary for further new power plants integration studies, as well as to perform current state network stability analyses, and to recommend mitigation measures to overcome existing network instabilities that were introduced after commissioning of several power plants in the period 2013-2016. The following activities are performed:
- Development and validation of the operational steady-state and dynamic model
- Conduct a 5-day training program
- Assessment of existing network reliability and stability issues, focusing on major power plants that have been commissioned during 2013-2016
Phase 2
The main objective of this phase is to develop planning models for 5 and 10 years horizon, to further enhance skills and knowledge of EUCL engineers in Network Modelling and Grid compliance studies as well as to conduct a study to analyze the future system behavior and predict possible technical and engineering solution to avoid continuous network instability that might brought in by new generation facilities. The following activities are performed:
- Conduct a second 5-day training program
- Detailed network analyses on previously identified and selected power generation development scenarios to test the feasibility and robustness of the proposed generation expansion plan from a network adequacy perspective, as well as to identify potential network reinforcements that will enable reliable transfer of power from generation to load centers
