With the goal of building expertise at Tanzania Electric Supply Company (TANESCO) through extensive hands on experience, the Scope of Work of this project comprises the following activities:

  • TASK 1 – Advanced PSS/E Load Flow Training and Model Verification
    • Further refinement of recently developed operational load flow model for 2016 (Current Model) in the terms of equipment rating, shunt compensator statuses, possibly converting it into 2017 model, based on information availability
    • Further capacity enhancement (5 day advanced load flow training program including advanced contingency analyses, tripping simulations and corrective actions, implementation of renewable generation and simulation of their effects on the grid, Inertia/Governor load flow calculation, PV, QV Analysis, Reactive power planning using PSS/E)
    • Development of report on approach, accomplishments and recommendations.
  • TASK 2 – Development of prospective PSS/E load flow model and technical analysis
    • Preparation of realistic scenario for 2020 (or 2022)
    • Review of current TANESCO transmission development plan for 2020 from the perspective of network upgrades to 400 kV voltage level which are necessary to evacuate power from the large production centres such as TPP Kinyerezi I, Kinyerezi II, Somanga Fungu and others
    • Detailed load flow and security (N-1) analyses focusing on possibilities to evacuate power from the envisaged large production centres taking into account TANESCO reliability criteria
    • Technical evaluation of TANESCO transmission network adequacy and give observations and recommendations related to possible alternative solutions that should be considered in order to prevent possible network congestions

Type of services provided:

  • Data collection and analyses
  • National network models development
  • Conduction of trainings
  • Models validation
  • Load flow analyses
  • Contingency analyses
