The main purpose of this project was to develop a software solution and implement non-costly Remedial Action Optimization (nRAO) and Presolve algorithm in the flow-based (FB) capacity calculation.
The concept for nRAO complies with the requirements of the Core day-ahead capacity calculation methodology (Core DA CCM) and presents an automated, coordinated, and reproducible optimization process, where the objective function is to maximize the smallest relative Remaining Available Margin (RAM) of all limiting Critical Network Elements and Contingencies (CNECs) considering only PST tap position and internal HVDCs as controlling devices to maximize the objective function.
Flow-based calculation in Transmission Network Analyzer is upgraded with the Presolve function, leaving only non-redundant and potentially limiting Critical Network Elements with Contingencies (CNECs). Pre-solving is an important step to provide a moderate number of CNECs to optimization and thus increase the performance and reduce the optimization time. Detection of redundant CNECs can be run by applying nodal or zonal constraints.
