The main objective of the Study was to assess technical, climate, economic and financial aspects of the proposed reinforcements in the transmission network of Ukraine. The following set of reinforcements was analysed: (1) rehabilitation and automation of 10 transmission substations located in central and western parts of Ukraine (220кV, 330кV and 750кV) and (2) construction of a new 330kV substation Skhidna (near Kiev) with associated short 330kV overhead transmission lines.
The analyses examined the project benefits related to increased security of power system operation, reduction of GHG and higher RES integration.
In addition to the above mentioned two main components of the study, the assessment also included the analysis of benefits related to Ukrainian integration into European electricity market, as well as effects of Ukrenergo’s business processes improvement which could facilitate greater RES integration.
