Using PSS/E for advanced Load flow and Short circuit analyses
14.09.2015
EKC with APEX provided a five-day interactive training workshop on advanced load flow and short circuit analysis utilizing PSS/E for Saudi Electricity Company (SEC) experts in September 6-11, 2015, in Jeddah, KSA.
The program was interactive, consisted of the PowerPoint presentations/instructions for each major topic, followed by representative exercises to be completed in class by the participants.
The training course covered the following topics:
- Running PSS/E in Batch Mode: Automation Files: IDEV, Python and PSEB
- PV Analysis (PV Curve): Analysis of maximum active power (MW) transfer limit of a transmission link
- QV Analysis (QV Curves): Analysis of reactive power compensation requirement at a substation
- Modelling of switched shunt capacitors/reactors in load flow
- Series compensation, enhancement of active power transfer, and reactive power support, modelling of series compensation in load flow
- Static VAR Compensator (SVC) and Static VAR Systems (SVS); their modelling in load flow through PSS/E, their application in steady state conditions
- Static load models, constant MVA, constant current and constant impedance
- Converted load flow for switching studies; energizing a transmission line and study of Ferranti Effect
- Components of HVDC Technology; Monopole, Bipole and other configurations
- HVDC Load Flow Modelling in PSS/E
- Optimum Power Flow, its objectives, applications and uses
- Symmetrical and asymmetrical fault currents
- Calculating DC component of fault current
- Circuit Breaker interrupting duty and PSS/E activity BKDY
- Short circuit strength and issues of Power Quality Harmonics, Flicker, Unbalance
