The objective of the assignment was to quantitatively assess technical justification of an optimal interconnection option for Moldova through power flow analysis. In order to understand the implication of different configurations of interconnection with Romania (AC, DC, hybrid AC/DC) on the power system operation, the wide range of scenarios and topological states were considered: current topology; installation of 300MW or 600MW BtB station in Vulcanesti; deployment of alternative technologies (e.g. PST, M-SSSC) and/or other AC elements (such as the new 400kV interconnection with Romania).
For each interconnection option, the power flow analysis included: cross border capacity calculation between Moldova and Romania, N-1 network security assessment, calculation of the active power losses, changes in loop flows, assessment of RES integration possibilities.
The simulation of power system operation was performed in PSS/E software tool.
Type of services provided:
- Power Flow Analysis related to the assessment of optimal interconnection option for Moldova.
- Cross border capacity calculation between Moldova and Romania, N-1 network security assessment, calculation of the active power losses, changes in loop flows, assessment of RES integration possibilities.
- Impact assessment of FACTS devices deployment.
